Review of an advance copy of KRS self-titled album, which was then titled Hip-Hop vs. Rap and was supposed to include “What I Know”.

I have tons of interviews where KRS talks about music, but what’s a KRS appreciation month without some of his comments on world politics ? Here he discussed the war in Irak with Jon Shecter in may 1991. The mp3 is from 1989 with 45 King on the turntables.

Today marks the beginning of KRS One appreciation month. Why ? Just because. And if I believed the stats of this blog, a lot of people google his name and end up here, so I guess he’s more popular than what the last ten years of his career would make you think.

A review of Common Sense’s classic album written by Chairman Mao for The Source in october 1994. The audio is a recording of a young Kanye West trying hard to make a name for himself by battling Common on a radio show in Chicago.

Another Unsigned Hype frow way back, that time Matty C was reviewing a demo tape by the young DJ Shadow. It was in the june 1991 issue of The Source.
I did an interview with Shadow a couple of month ago where we discussed this tape, as well as his beginnings, how he (never) met Dave Funkenklein, how he ruined his american career etc…
It’s in French. I also have the audio (in english) somewhere. I don’t know how people who read this blog feel about audio interviews. Personally I don’t like to listen to interviews on a computer, but I could post it (and others) if you want, just let me know, leave a comment and i’ll see.
