KRS One interview in Straight From The Lips (1993)

July 9, 2007

Great minds think alike. Just when I was posting “What I Know” along the review of KRS One’s second “solo” album, Elliott Wilson was posting the same song (under a different title) on the XXL blog. His rip sounds better than mine, so go check it and the other unreleased songs from the same session. Anyway, KRS later recycled part of this song on the soundtrack of Ma 6T Va Crack-er, under the name “French Connection”.
The short interview here is from Straight From The Lips, in 1993, where you understand how his sex life can have an effect on his choice of beats.

Say What ? Rap artist speak out : KRS One in The Source (1991)

July 6, 2007

I have tons of interviews where KRS talks about music, but what’s a KRS appreciation month without some of his comments on world politics ? Here he discussed the war in Irak with Jon Shecter in may 1991. The mp3 is from 1989 with 45 King on the turntables.

The Hit Squad Strikes Black : Redman interview in No Sell Out (1992)

June 12, 2007

Early interview of Redman in No Sell Out Magazine made a week before his first 12″ dropped and published in september 1992. The freestyle below with Biz Markie is the same Stretch Armstrong posted on his Konstant Kontakt blog earlier today, only with better sound.

Also, you should check the We Love blog, my man Erwin just upload a Redman mix I did on the radio a couple of weeks back. The mix is sloppy but there’s enough freestyle, rare tracks and collabs to please most Redman fans.

Holder Of The Rock : LL Cool J interview in The Source (1993)

June 12, 2007

Great interview where LL Cool J answers the questions of Reginald C. Dennis. Unfortunately I don’t have a copy of the Dangerous practice session that he played for him, so instead the audio is a live recording of LL dissing Ice T over the Keni Burke instrumental.

Buzz : Ill Biskits interview in Flavor (1995)

June 8, 2007

Like most rap artists signed to WEA and its branches (Omniscience, Juggaknots, Deda, INI, Supernatural, Agallah, Lin Que, KMD, Ador, Coz… who else ?) in 1994/95, Ill Biskits dropped a couple of 12″ before their album got shelved for 13 years. Their 15 minutes of fame included a few interviews like this one, from Seattle magzine Flavor in september 1995.
